With less than a year remaining before the changeover to ICD-10-which is required for everyone covered by HIPAA-physician practices should have a plan in place for educating staff about the thousands of new codes and procedures for billing, but some are still lagging behind. Now is the time to make sure you have a game plan and aren't caught trying to catch up as the deadline approaches, and part of that planning should involve contingencies in case the checks stop coming.
