IRS focus: Compensation by exempt organizations

Exempt organizations must appropriately document any economic benefits they provide to their executives and certain independent contractors. The absence of such documentation could lead the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to assume that such benefits are excess benefits and therefore require both the recipients and organization managers to pay excise taxes.
