While some regulatory changes affect only a handful of healthcare facilities, revisions to the laws governing Medicare have a wide-sweeping effect. Hospitals across the country must become familiar with the provisions of the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003. The act, signed in December 2003, represents changes in how Medicare will pay for items and services, including medical education, transfer cases, and physician evaluation and management.
