Provide physician with EMTALA education to promote compliance and reduce liability
Many physicians are unaware that their responsibility to respond to emergency department (ED) calls could result in significant individual liability under the EMTALA. However, the act, designed to ensure that individuals receive necessary stabilizing treatment when suffering from an emergency medical condition, applies not only to hospitals with ED, but also to the physicians who support those ED through the hospital's call list.
