Get ready for a change in how your hospital gets reimbursed- pay-for-performance programs may be in your future. Pay-for-performance programs reimburse hospitals based partly on performance and not solely by individual procedures. With many private health plans currently offering these programs, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) issuing pay-for-performance guidelines and CMS working on a demonstration project, incentive-based reimbursement may be closer than you think.
