Retail clinics: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em
Until now, inconvenience has been an accepted part of healthcare. But retail health clinics are trying to change all of that.
Often taking up just a small corner of a store, health clinics can be found in many of America's best-known retail chains, offering treatment for minor illnesses and injuries. Most don't require an appointment, wait times are short, and costs are low.
This trend is scaring many in healthcare, but a handful of healthcare systems are following the adage "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" by opening their own retail locations staffed with nonphysician providers employed by the hospital.
