Economist Links Higher ER Spending to Lower Mortality



A Massachusetts Institute of Technology study finds that an increase of about $4,000 in hospital expenditures per cardiac patient leads to a 1.4 percentage-point decrease in the mortality rate. But the study does not differentiate between effective and ineffective ways to spend.
