Philadelphia hospital expands maternity unit

North Philadelphia-based Albert Einstein Medical Center has nearly completed construction on a $10 million project to expand its maternity unit. Since 1997, 15 hospitals in the Philadelphia region have closed their maternity units, citing high malpractice insurance and low insurance reimbursements. Einstein said it loses about $2,000 per maternity patient.
