Michigan hospitals to start posting prices
Nonprofit hospitals in Michigan's will start listing prices for at least 50 common medical procedures beginning in January of 2008, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The Michigan Health & Hospital Association will sponsor a voluntary price database on the association's Web site, www.mha.org, the paper said.
The organization will start by posting prices of at least 50 tests, operations, and procedures, such as CT-scans, that make up as much as 80% of hospital business, David Seaman, executive vice president of the association, told the paper. Spectrum Health of Grand Rapids is the state's only hospital system now posting prices.
