New 30-Day Readmission Rates Listed at HHS Hospital Compare Web site
How many times hospitals had to readmit patients they had just discharged within 30 days after care for heart attacks, heart failure, or pneumonia is information now publicly available on Medicare's Hospital Compare Web site. The sunshine statistics may prompt hospitals to improve their care, as it ranks them as having rates that are better, the same as, or worse than the average of U.S. hospitals.
