FL officials fear healthcare act will boost Medicaid costs
Orlando Sentinel, March 28, 2012
During today's arguments, the Supreme Court justices will consider a part of the Affordable Care Act that would allow millions of uninsured low-income adults—including 1.2 million in Florida—to qualify for Medicaid, the federal-state healthcare program for people in poverty. The U.S. Supreme Court will consider the constitutionality of the part of the plan that could have the biggest impact on Florida's state budget. Florida lawmakers are watching closely, with some fearing that if the act is upheld it could put tremendous budget pressure on the state and result in cuts to public schools, law enforcement and transpiration.
