Mobile Technologies
HealthLeaders Magazine, February 1, 2007
| Mobile technology has come a long way since Apple introduced the first personal digital assistant in the late 1980s. A multitude of applications can be accessed on a mobile data device, including software that stores and retrieves patient data, reviews lab values, writes and transmits prescriptions, creates treatment plans and accesses various medical references, among other things. Although implementation obstacles exist-financial support and user acceptance among them-many senior leaders have taken notice of mobile devices' potential for improving efficiency and patient care; one survey showed more than 60 percent of IT executives plan to implement handheld PDAs in their organizations within the next two years. | |
