Hospital officials worry as New York governor signals need for more Medicaid cuts

New York Gov. David A. Paterson is preparing to release a budget that he has warned will include severe cuts to the state Medicaid program that reimburses hospitals and doctors for services to low-income patients. Officials say hospitals could face bankruptcies, service cuts, and layoffs within a matter of months if Medicaid cuts being proposed by Governor Paterson go into effect.
