Hennepin County (MN) Medical Center asks for help, gets no takers

Minneapolis Star Tribune, January 25, 2010

Cash-strapped Hennepin County (MN) Medical Center asked other Minneapolis-area counties for help the medical bills for the uninsured destitute patients who live in their counties. While the counties are sympathetic, they don't intend to raise property taxes to cover indigents' medical bills in Hennepin County, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. The other counties say instead, it's a problem for the state of Minnesota. HCMC, Minnesota's busiest safety-net hospital for the uninsured and destitute, is in the midst of perhaps the worst budget crisis in its 123-year history, the Star Tribune reports.
