Jackson Health System won't get state bailout

Miami Herald, March 12, 2010

The head of the financially struggling Jackson Health System did a nine-hour blitz in the Florida Capitol on Thursday in the hopes of winning up to $100 million in rescue money. In the end, Eneida Roldan returned home empty-handed—not unexpected in a Legislature facing a multibillion-dollar budget shortfall. In Miami-Dade County, two county commissioners proposed ordinances to give them more control over the public health system, which is expected to lose $229 million this fiscal year unless drastic cuts are made.
