Bundled payments might cut hospital costs without reducing quality of care

Jain notes that insurance companies and Medicare pay separately for each procedure in the predominant "fee-for-service" model, which she calls a "design flaw" of our healthcare system that is one of the reasons for spiraling healthcare costs.
