Cost issues remain despite healthcare reforms

Miami Herald, March 31, 2010

Controlling America's world-highest healthcare costs was pushed to the background by the time the health reform bill was finished, the Miami Herald reports. The issue is particularly important in South Florida, with its high rates of uninsured coupled with healthcare costs that are the highest in the nation or close to it. Any attempt to control costs will have huge effects there, perhaps including reductions in the number of expensive tests and visits to specialists. But in the past year, as reform became a battleground in Congress, costs moved to the back burner, reports the Herald.
