Healthcare propels Nashville’s economy
The Tennessean, July 7, 2010
Without Nashville's signature healthcare industry, roughly 211,000 residents would have to find work elsewhere, $1.2 billion in state and local taxes could be lost and nearly 31 million square feet of office space might go vacant. The industry's economic impact grew to $29.2 billion in 2008, according to a study being released today by the Nashville Health Care Council. That was up 60 percent from $18.3 billion when the same researchers from Middle Tennessee State University did a similar study four years ago.
