Peninsula Hospital's last gasp, a doctor's efforts

With closure looming Monday, a doctor at Peninsula Hospital has made a last-ditch legal effort to keep the facility open. Dr. Wayne Dodakian, a hospitalist fellow at the Far Rockaway facility, has filed for an injunction against the court-appointed trustee, Lori Lapin Jones, claiming that Jones misled the court to get the hospital to close quicker. Dodakian, also a creditor in the case, asserted that Jones should be removed as the sole authority at the hospital. The matter is set to come before a federal bankruptcy judge in Brooklyn on Monday in what promises to be a dramatic hearing. Peninsula's emergency department was slated to close on Monday at 9 a.m., but that could be pushed back if Dodakian's Hail Mary maneuver is successful.
