Delay could give Democrats health reform options

Boston Globe, January 20, 2010

Massachusetts GOP Senator-elect Scott Brown said that he wants to be sworn in without delay, but if the Senate follows its typical procedures, he might not be installed until Feb. 3. Although the two-week delay could give Democrats in Congress time to devise a strategy for passing healthcare before Brown arrives, some Democrats were balking at such a move and said it would further erode voter confidence in the party, the Boston Globe reports. Brown, who has vowed to vote against the healthcare bill, would give the GOP enough votes to stop the final version of the legislation from coming to the Senate floor.
