Individual health insurance policy premiums soaring in Illinois

Chicago Tribune, March 5, 2010

Consumers in Illinois who lose their jobs and have no other option but to buy their own health insurance will see premium increases of up to 60%, according to state records. In an effort to help consumers know more about insurance rate increases, Illinois is putting the individual rate data online for the first time. "This information is important because the individual market is where an increasing number of people fall when they lose their jobs and become unemployed," Illinois Director of Insurance Michael McRaith told the Chicago Tribune.
