LI's Southampton Hospital eyes move to Stony Brook campus
More than a year after forming a clinical affiliation with Stony Brook University Medical Center, Southampton Hospital has held preliminary discussions about relocating to the Stony Brook Southampton College campus. The two institutions are far from moving ahead with a project, but both confirmed there have been talks about possibly rebuilding the hospital on the 82-acre Southampton campus. "It's very much a concept that we would like considered," Southampton Hospital CEO Robert S. Chaloner said. "It's an appealing idea." Stony Brook University spokeswoman Lauren Sheprow described the discussions as "extremely preliminary." She said the two haven't progressed beyond early talks "especially in light of the executive budget proposal eliminating $55 million direct state support and zeroing out any new construction or capital improvement funding to Stony Brook University Hospital."
