Beware of billing snafus with CRNAs, ER physicians
Picture this common billing mix-up: A hospital employs certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA), but not anesthesiologists. The anesthesiologist, who supervises CRNAs, bills the managed care company for the physician component of anesthesia services. CRNA services are then billed by the hospital because the hospital's managed care contracts include language that addresses such payment.
