Academic pay up, yet still considerably less than private sector physician salaries
Medical school docs see increases across the board, but not enough
Academic physicians working in primary care had an average overall pay increase of 5.4% in 2004. As in previous years, however, academic specialty physicians' salaries were still greater, as was their median pay increase of 7.9%, according to the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) 2005 Academic Practice Compensation and Production Survey for Faculty and Management.
Based on 2004 data, the MGMA survey tallied responses from 359 clinical science departments to determine trends in medical school physicians' compensation.
