At least five specialties earn double-digit increases in total cash compensation in ’05
Dermatology, cardiology, anesthesiology, radiology, and radiation therapy all garnered double-digit total cash compensation (TCC) increases in 2005, according to the newly released Sullivan, Cotter and Associates, Inc. (SCA) Physician Compensation and Productivity Survey .
The average salary increases for specialists and primary care physicians also rose. Survey participants reported that specialist salaries increased by 4.5% in 2004, while primary care salaries increased by 4.1%. During the past few years, overall physician salary increases hovered below the 4% mark.
A CMS-designated safe harbor (SH) survey (for more about SH surveys, see related story below), the SCA report includes data from nearly 30,000 physicians in 149 specialties and reports data on base salaries, TCC, and productivity levels by physician level. Also included in the survey are data on pay practices, incentive compensation, physician benefits and perquisites, resident compensation, hourly rates, and more.
