Most specialties saw only minimal increases in median total cash compensation during the past year, according to results from two 2006 CMS-designated safe harbor surveys-required for calculating fair market value under Stark II-released in October. Median compensation for all primary care phy-sicians rose 3.9%, compared to a 3.1% increase the previous year. Medical specialties saw a 6.6% overall jump in the 2006 Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) Physician Compensation and Production Survey. However, only anesthesiology in-creased more than 10% after four specialties saw double-digit increases in the 2005 survey.
