Use payer report cards to improve managed care contracts
Payers often use report cards to rack and stack their providers, but providers can use this tool just as successfully to track payer performance against negotiated contract provisions. The ability to monitor managed care payer performance through a desktop scorecard also enables provider organizations to improve managed care contracts during renegotiations, according to Maria K. Todd, MHA, PhD, vice president of Brooklyn, NY-based HealthPro Consulting. Todd discussed the development of payer report cards at the Healthcare Financial Management Association's (HFMA) 2007 Annual National Institute in San Diego in June.
