NC's Presbyterian Healthcare helps patients find 'Dr. Right'
At 20 and just out of college, Julie Flanagan is ready to make the switch from her pediatrician to her first gynecologist. When she heard about Presbyterian Healthcare's "Find Dr. Right" event, she signed up to spend three minutes each, face-to-face with obstetrician-gynecologists from five different Charlotte-area practices. Call it speed dating for doctors. "This is exactly what I needed," Flanagan said. "I came with lots of questions." When Tuesday's session began, 11 doctors sat on one side of two long tables, and 13 prospective patients sat across from them, changing seats like musical chairs when a bell rang every three minutes. Doctors said they don't usually have time to meet people who are trying to pick the right doctor. Patients said they like the idea of visiting with several doctors before choosing one.

In a perfect world, we'd all love to choose our physicians in a similar way and I applaud those physicians who took the time to test this new method. While the CEO of Creighton University Medical Center, we launched "Findyourphysician.com", an internet version that provided social bios as well as medical bios on our physicians so that potential patients had a better feeling for communication style, etc. It was very successful in helping to make those matches with "Dr. Right."
