A look inside Joplin MO’s mobile hospital
OzarksFirst.com, June 2, 2011
On Wednesday, debris pickup began and the death toll stood at 134 in the wake of the Joplin tornado. The Missouri Department of Public Safety said everyone missing had been accounted for. One of the most disturbing things about the EF-5 tornado in Joplin was that it could wipe out an entire hospital. But within days, a mobile hospital has taken the place of St. John's. The Taney County Ambulance District owns the facility. It's the only kind in the state and this is the first time it's being used. You could call it a "modern MASH." From the outside, you see a bunch of tents sitting in the parking lot. From the inside, you see a medical community -- whose physical and departmental walls are down -- working to heal the wounded.
