DOJ brought in more than $2 billion in 2011 from healthcare fraud cases

The Justice Department said Monday that President Obama's healthcare reform law helped it recover roughly $2.4 billion through healthcare fraud cases this year. DOJ said it recovered more than $3 billion by winning or settling allegations of fraud against the government. About 80 percent of that total came from cases involving healthcare programs. The federal government recovered roughly $1.8 billion from pharmaceutical companies this year, and helped states recover another $421 million from the industry. Those settlements came in cases involving illegal pricing, submitting false claims to government healthcare programs and violating Food and Drug Administration regulations.
