A Laughing Matter
As a pain and palliative care clinical nurse specialist at The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hob Osterlund believes in the power of a good laugh. So does Ivy Push, RN. Push is Osterlund's comedic alter-ego and the host of The Chuckle Channel, which provides subscription-based humor programming for closed-circuit television at hospitals. The Push character is the comedic glue for the channel, talking directly to hospital patients while appearing between shows, which range from stand-up routines to short independent films.
Produced by Osterlund, the channel is designed to relieve stress and lift the spirits of patients and family members alike. The programming is an extension of Osterlund's research on the impact of laughter on symptoms such as pain, anxiety and fatigue. Check out www.chucklechannel.com to learn how to subscribe.
