Detroit-area health system hires docs for advice

The Detroit News, January 19, 2011
The St. John Providence Health System has inked a management services agreement with some 50 doctors at its St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital to boost patient satisfaction, save money and help keep open its Madison Heights campus. Under a two-year contract, doctors will be paid hourly to advise on such things as improving patient safety and hospital efficiency. They could also suggest eliminating or moving programs and services to a different St. John hospital or adding services, said Terry Hamilton, senior vice president of operations for the Warren-based health system, which has six hospitals in southeast Michigan.
