Patients leave Miami because of Super Bowl

Miami Herald, January 28, 2010

The U.S. military is evacuating Haitian earthquake victims to northern portions of Florida to make sure Miami emergency rooms are ready for the Super Bowl. In addition, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist formally asked the federal government to have other states' hospitals receive future patients who come to the United States from Haiti, the Miami Herald reports. More than 450 victims of the Jan. 12 earthquake have been treated in Florida hospitals, with 368 of them in 32 hospitals in South Florida.
