Pediatric ER turns fun and games into effective care

Chicago Tribune, March 31, 2010

Provena St. Joseph Medical Center has opened a 5,000-square-foot addition in Joliet, IL, dedicated to treating the area's sick children. The new addition centers on being kid-friendly––from smaller beds to appropriately sized blood-pressure cuffs to cartoons playing on the in-room televisions. With patient rooms that look more like they belong in a pediatrician's office than an emergency room and nurses and doctors trained in pediatric care, pediatricians hope children and their parents will feel a little more comfortable with the hospital surroundings, the Chicago Tribune reports.
