Leapfrog Announces Survey Partnership with Quantros
The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization representing major private and public purchasers of healthcare benefits, has selected Quantros, a healthcare software and services provider of data management and decision support analytics, to service and administer its online Leapfrog Hospital Survey.
The survey annually collects safety, quality, and efficiency data from more than 1,200 hospitals nationwide and publicly reports results online. The latest survey findings were released last week. Quantros will replace Thomson Reuters Healthcare, which is currently conducting the 2010 survey, and will incrementally transition out of that role over the coming months, with Quantros assuming responsibility for the survey in September.
"Leapfrog is not about collecting data in a survey. We're about using data to drive change," says Leapfrog CEO Leah Binder. "Quantros brought some really good ideas for how we can use the information that we get from Leapfrog to present it in ways to employers, health plans, and the public at large—so they know how to use it."
"There's lots of complexities to that, but they brought a fresh perspective and technical expertise on how to do it," Binder says. She adds that over the past 10 years, since Leapfrog's founding, Thomson Reuters "has served us extremely well," so we were "particularly selective in replacing them."
"We're tough on hospitals, and obviously we want the best from our hospitals. But we also consider hospitals as the most important contributors to patient safety," Binder says. "Obviously, they're the ones that are going to make this happen. We see them at partners and we want to make sure that what we do can be helpful for them."
In terms of technology, new developments in Web-based surveys could make it easier for hospitals to complete the survey and give immediate feedback, she says. "We want to be able to give them quick links to data and help in completing the survey."
Leapfrog first put out a request for proposals last September. Leapfrog selected Quantros based not just on its technical expertise and reputation for customer service, but also on the alignment of the organizations,' missions, visions for patient safety, and passion for change in the way healthcare is delivered, said Leapfrog.
The Leapfrog Group was founded in November 2000 by the Business Roundtable and is now independently operated with support from its members.
