Demand for temporary coverage fell below past levels in 2003, for the most part. Yet temporary staffing gained efficiency, filling a majority of all demand. Other factors-use of overtime, medical malpractice costs-also shape the market. According to this analysis, demand for locum tenens continues to grow, while mid-level and nursing markets move toward equilibrium.
