MEDICAL STAFF LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
The Greeley Company, a division of HCPro, Inc., January 9, 2008
During a period of heavy financial loss several years ago, a hospital decided to cut back on travel to educational programs for physician leaders. At the same time, the hospital made necessary but painful cuts in other areas that affected physicians, such as nurse staffing and capital equipment. Three years later, the medical staff members elected as chief of staff a physician whose campaign promise was "to give the board hell and be administration's worst nightmare." Physician-hospital conflict then escalated, draining everybody's time and energy away from patient care.
