Federal agency delivers 'two-midnight' win to hospitals

Capital Pro, February 3, 2014

The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will delay the implementation of the two-midnight rule for an additional six months, according to Kenneth Raske, president of the Greater New York Hospital Association. The announcement signifies a major victory for hospitals in New York and across the country, which have lobbied tirelessly for delay and repeal. This is the third time CMS has delayed the policy, which requires a patient to stay in the hospital for more than two midnights before CMS will reimburse a hospital at inpatient rates.
