The doctor will see you. . .in a while
There's a recurring theme in patient satisfaction: People value communication. They want to know what a doctor's doing and why she's doing it. They want apologies when a provider screws up. And, according to this latest Press Ganey survey, they want to know how long they're going to have to wait. Press Ganey surveyed 1.5 million patients in over 1,600 ERs. People who waited more than four hours to see a doctor but remained informed of delays were more satisfied than those who waited and weren't informed. [Read More]
Zappos pays to weed out uncommitted workers
I've recently heard many healthcare leaders talk about the importance of weeding out weak employees (I've written on this topic before, too), but Internet shoe retailer Zappos has a policy to filter out uncommitted workers before they even start. One week into training, employees are offered $1,500 to quit—an offer that Zappos execs say shows how committed new employees really are. It sounds good in theory, I guess, but I'm not sold. I mean who really likes a new job when they're only one week in? It's 3, 4, 5 years in that bad employees really start to stagnate. Zappos would be better off making their offer then, rather than during the first week. [Read More]
