The newest report on medical tourism predicts "explosive growth" for U.S. outbound medical travel, with Americans paying more than $2 billion to global providers this year and doubling their spending next year. By 2010, the study estimates that spending will reach as much as $10 billion, but after that the speculation is much less precise. It's one thing to be a proponent of healthcare globalization, but quite another to buy into the hype if widespread medical tourism. [Read More]

Honestly, Dubai is not the first guess when I think of a country with a shaky economy, but the Boston Globe had some insight into a recent negative outlook for the UAE. With terrorists targeting healthcare and other professionals, you can hardly blame the physicians who fled Iraq, but now the ministry of health is calling on doctors to return home. And 165 brave Iraqi physicians have answered the call.
