Winchester Hospital in suburban Boston was named the best place to work in Massachusetts in a survey by the Boston Globe. The Globe reports that nearly 100% of the 2,600 employees at the Winchester say in questionnaires that they are proud to work for the 229-bed hospital. [Read More]
Survey: 80% worried about medical bills in U.S.
A new survey by the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions finds that about 80% of Americans believe the tanking economy could adversely affect their ability to pay their medical bills. Only 6% of the more than 4,000 U.S. adults surveyed said their families are completely prepared to handle medical costs. [Read More]
Orange County hospitals CEO Bruce Mogel steps down after internal probe
After an internal investigation into his employment background and other activities, Santa Ana, CA-based Integrated Healthcare Holdings Inc. CEO Bruce Mogel has resigned. IHHI did not explicitly say that its internal probe had confirmed allegations made against Mogel in a lawsuit by Orange County Physicians Investment Network, a major investor in the company. The investor group alleged, among other things, that Mogel had admitted to an IHHI executive that he had taken kickbacks from suppliers when he was an executive at another healthcare company. His resignation could create new turmoil in the management of four major regional hospitals, which account for more than 12% of the county's hospital beds and a quarter of its emergency-room visits.
