Hospital to Flowers: You're Not On the Guest List
In an attempt to curb infections and clutter, a hospital in Northern England recently banned flowers from all patient rooms—and they say their patients are OK with that. Libby McManus, chief nurse for York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, says the organization surveyed maternity patients, who tend to receive the most flowers, and learned that they would prefer to enjoy their flowers for longer at home. But, as a reader points out in the comment section, maternity patients are also usually hospitalized under happy circumstances and have short stays. Experts say it's unlikely similar hospital-wide measures will be enforced in the U.S., due to a focus on patient experience and more space to work with than many English hospitals.
