Physicians, Hospitals Benefit from Reentry Programs
Imagine you're a practitioner who wants to return to practice after an extended leave and need to brush up your clinical skills. Or you're a hospital who wants to welcome that practitioner back, but you need evidence of current competency. In both cases, a physician reentry program can be the ideal partner. Physician reentry programs are structured educational plans that may offer a mix of clinical and cognitive refreshers for individuals returning from maternity leave, sabbaticals, or other extended absences. Medical staffs may want to consider how many of their practitioners are eligible for reentry programs and whether the numbers are high enough to warrant the creation of an internal reentry program. OAKLAND: Columbus named CHRO at Kaiser Foundation
Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals has named Chuck Columbus senior vice president/CHRO for the organization. Columbus, who previously served as senior vice president, labor relations, is credited with developing Kaiser Permanente's national labor relations strategy and managing the organization's collective bargaining during the first half of 2010. Columbus has responsibility for human resources functions, including recruiting, personnel development, organization and succession planning, total compensation and employee relations. He will continue to direct labor relations and remain active in Kaiser Permanente's Labor Management Partnership.[Read More]

GALLATIN, TN: LifePoint Names New CEO for Sumner Regional MC
When Sumner Regional Medical Center closes its books at the end of the month, CEO Roger Kaiser will be replaced with the current CEO of a medical center in Kentucky, LifePoint Hospitals announced Monday. Mary Jo Lewis has been CEO of Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, KY, since 1999. Her new position is scheduled to take effect when the transaction between LifePoint and Sumner Regional closes as it is expected to at the end of August, though that deal still needs final approval from a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge. Kaiser works for a consulting company that was brought on by Sumner Regional's board of directors last year and was always understood to be a temporary management leader until the ailing health system could be restructured. MILWAUKEE: CEO Finley resigns at Aurora's Summit hospital
Aurora Medical Center Summit CEO Fran Finley resigned Aug. 2, just five months after the hospital opened in western Waukesha County. The 55-year-old Finley had been an administrator with Milwaukee-based Aurora since she was hired in 2003 to open the system's Oshkosh hospital. She was chosen to run the Summit hospital in January 2009 and had been commuting from her Oshkosh home since. Finley left the company on her own volition to "pursue other opportunities," said Aurora spokesperson Mary Reinke, who declined to comment further. She will be replaced by Dan Bonk, a long-time administrator within Aurora who was Finley's boss for five years when she ran the Oshkosh hospital.[Read More]

WICHITA, KS: Peterson named senior VP at Via Christi Health Hospitals
Randy Peterson has been named senior vice president of Via Christi Health Hospitals. Peterson's new position broadens the scope of his responsibilities to now include oversight of all of Via Christi's hospitals, including those in Wichita, KS. Since 2006, Peterson has served as senior vice president, Regional Operations, a position in which he oversaw operations of Via Christi's hospitals in Kansas including Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan and Wamego City Hospital. Peterson will implement campus-based leadership, appointing a president at each acute care hospital in Wichita and single president for Via Christi Rehabilitation Hospital and Via Christi Behavioral Health.[Read More]

GRAND BLANC, MI: Hotchkiss, MD, named Genesys' CLO
Linda Hotchkiss, MD, has joined Genesys as chief learning officer. She is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the Genesys Education and Research division, which includes: Medical Education, Medical Program Business, Clinical and Organizational Education, the Office of Research and the Genesys Learning Institute. Before joining Genesys, Hotchkiss was vice president of Academic Affairs and chief of the Aurora University of Wisconsin Medical Group; senior vice president of Community Health and Clinical and Physician Services for Trinity Health in Novi; and CMO/senior vice president at Detroit Medical Center/Sinai Health System in Detroit.[Read More]

COLUMBUS, OH: OHA's Callender Steps Down
After 30 years of advocating for hospitals at the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA), John Callender is retiring as senior vice president and CFO, effective Aug. 31. Callender managed OHA's activities for all fiscal matters affecting Medicare, Medicaid, health insurance, federal relations with Congress and the executive branch, the Hospital Care Assurance Program, OHA's Data Services Program, OHA's Center for Education, and financial operations. Callender joined OHA in 1980 as the vice president of financial services. In 1984 he was promoted to senior vice president and named CFO in 2003. [Read More]

BLUE HILL, ME: Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Hires New CEO
Blue Hill Memorial Hospital has hired a Michigan health care administrator as its new president/CEO. Charlie J. Hatfield II, chairman of the hospital board of trustees, and M. Michelle Hood, president/CEO of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, announced that Gregory E. Roraff of Marlette, MI, has been selected as the new president/CEO of the hospital. Roraff has served as CEO of Marlette Regional Hospital since July 2008.[Read More]

ORLANDO: Nemours Names New Director for Strategy, Business Development
Nemours has appointed Vonda Sexton to the newly created role of Director, Strategy and Business Development for the Nemours Children's Hospital. She is responsible for managing and coordinating the strategic planning, business development, and referral relations functions for the combined hospital and physician practice in Central Florida, and coordinating the development and implementation of the NCH strategic planning process in alignment with the enterprise-wide mission. The appointment is effective immediately. Sexton joined Nemours in 2002 and served in various roles in the Finance Department. [Read More]

SIOUX FALLS, SD: Warne Named Sanford's Director of Native American HealthSanford Health has named Donald Warne, MD, director of the newly created Sanford Office of Native American Health. Warne most recently served as the executive director of the Aberdeen Area Tribal Chairmen's Health Board in Rapid City, SD. He is an adjunct clinical professor at the Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law where he teaches American Indian Health Policy. Warne is a member of the Oglala Lakota tribe from Pine Ridge, SD, and comes from a long line of traditional healers and medicine men. He received his medical degree from Stanford University in 1995 and his Master of Public Health from Harvard University with a focus on health policy in 2002.[Read More]
