Hospital Groups Want Say in Health Reform Lawsuit
This is one of many challenges that are likely to be launched against the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act, but it's interesting because it involves several strong hospital lobbying groups involved. Interestingly, the lawsuit is about the insurance coverage mandate in the law. Plaintiffs argue the requirement is unconstitutional, but hospitals are asking to join the lawsuit to argue that the mandate is essential for implementation of other aspects of the omnibus law. SGR Fix Gets Cool Industry Reception
The controversial sustainable growth rate formula that is slated to ultimately cut physician payments by 25% beginning Dec. 1 may be done away with by a new deficit-trimming proposal. The proposal would eliminate the SGR—an action the industry has been calling for—but still lower physician pay incrementally over the next decade. The key for policymakers, however, should be focused on whether physicians will actually leave Medicare in large numbers under such a plan. [Read More]
