Study finds many patients dissatisfied with hospitals
CMS released the results of its much-talked-about HCAHPS survey online last Friday. While leaders told me the data held no surprises for their own hospitals, they admitted they were quick to check out their competitors. WellPoint: 11 errors off-limits
Following CMS's lead, the nation's largest commercial health insurer (members-wise) announced Wednesday that it will no longer reimburse hospitals and docs for 11 preventable medical errors. The list of mistakes includes bed sores, wrong-site surgery, and catheter-related urinary tract infections. Other insurers are expected to make similar changes. National standards to rank physicians planned
Physician groups and health insurers have finally agreed on a compromise in the physician rankings debate that heated up last year when the New York attorney general launched an investigation into several insurers' ratings. The groups announced Tuesday that they would join forces to develop a national set of standards for ranking physician performance. Experts say this agreement is a first step to "get beyond the finger pointing" in healthcare. [Read More]
