Americans head overseas for medical care
Following the new Deloitte report, The Tennessean notes that despite the fact that Americans are warming to the idea of medical travel, "concerns about quality and questions about differences between the legal systems of the United States and other countries has held back growth in what is estimated to be a $60 billion global market for outbound medical tourism." This is similar information that I gathered from McKinsey & Co. at last week's Globalization Summit (see below). [Read More]
U.S. Pivotal to Global Market’s Growth
McKinsey & Co.'s Paul Mango distributed a research report at the Health Care Globalization Summit in Las Vegas and gave a presentation based on some of his firm's findings. Although McKinsey's research concludes that there are fewer medical travelers than previous estimates, Mango said the potential for global healthcare growth is even greater than the movement's hype. A day earlier, the Wall Street Journal previewed a McKinsey & Co. research report that found that the global healthcare market only has 60,000 to 85,000 inpatient medical travelers a year.
