Paralyzed teen plans trip to Costa Rica for stem cell surgery
An 18-year-old who was paralyzed after a car accident has seen improved mobility and sensation after four rounds of stem-cell injections she had in China. In this story by her hometown newspaper—The Shreveport Times—Kayla Spano says she plans to give stem cell treatment another try, but this time will travel to a Costa Rica hospital and undergo more intense therapy. Tawam Molecular Imaging Centre breaks ground
Tawam Hospital in Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates has broken ground on a molecular imaging center. The center is the result of an agreement last year between Mubadala Development Company and Siemens Healthcare to create a stand-alone facility aimed at improving diagnostic imaging in the region. Tawam Molecular Imaging Center is scheduled for completion in 2009 and will offer imaging systems to improve early detection and tracking of cancer, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases. This is the latest example of the UAE developing facilities and technologies in the region that used to only be available abroad. [Read More]

U.S. healthcare least popular out of 10 countries
The saying goes, perception is reality. So what's the reality of a third of Americans saying the U.S. healthcare system needs a complete overhaul? And 50% said "fundamental changes are needed to make it work better," according to a new Harris Interactive survey. The report puts the U.S. healthcare system on the bottom of 10 countries surveyed. The Dutch system came out on top, with only 9% saying it needs complete retooling. [Read More]
