Medicare offers bonuses of up to 2% for e-prescribing
Starting next year, doctors who use electronic prescribing systems will get a 2% bonus from the federal government on top of their regular fee. The bonus program continues for four years and is meant to streamline the prescribing process and reduce errors, say health officials. To get the 2% bonus, doctors will have to get with the e-prescribing program during the first two years, because after 2010 bonuses drop to 1%. [Read More]

Providence to pay $100k for data security lapse
Providence Health System has been hit with a $100,000 fine after car burglars managed to steal laptops containing the medical records of 386,000 patients across Oregon and Washington. Department of Health and Human Services officials say the penalty is the first of its type to be enforced under the privacy section of HIPAA. [Read More] |
