Medicare to pay bonuses for e-prescribing
We live in a world of cash back bonuses, and getting air miles for buying groceries on a credit card, so why should e-prescribing be any different. CMS has announced a plan to pay physicians a 2% bonus for e-prescribing in 2009 and 2010, with declining bonuses in later years. One concern with any incentive program is whether the rewards are high enough to influence behavior, but in this case, even a few hundred dollars a year could offset the upfront technology purchase costs for e-prescribing.
