Here's your share of the bill
Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital officials have sent bills totaling $75 million to Georgia counties for services that were provided to their residents but went unpaid. The jury is still out on whether or not this was a good idea. It does raise some interesting questions about providing care for uninsured residents and who ultimately is responsible. In urban areas, this responsibility usually falls on one hospital or a small handful of institutions that are often buried in red ink. Layoffs continue in healthcare sector
NorthShore Skokie (IL) Hospital said it would eliminate 150 full-time jobs, or nearly 14% of its workforce in the next two months. Hennepin County Medical Center is cutting 100 jobs and freezing capital spending even though demand for its services is growing. HCMC said the actions are in response to the reductions in state funding announced last month.
